Unboxing and RAM upgrade of the HP ProLiant MicroServer and VMware vSphere HyperVisor installation (ESXi).

The HP ProLiant MicroServer isn't the most powerful machine you'll ever meet but it's perfect for a cool and quiet server on a small network.

- AMD Athlon II Neo N36L / 1.3GHz
- 1GB DDR3 SDRAM
- HDD 1x 250GB

The 1GB of RAM with which the server came didn't seem sufficient so I pulled it out and swapped it with a cheap 4GB module from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001UR61Z0/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag...

The MicroServer can have a total of 8GB of RAM and 4 x 2TB HDDs.

  • @jaketvee ......Hi, a very silly position I`m in, I`ve lost the keys to the front door. I`ve checked EVERYWHERE, I`m gonna either have to pick the lock or drill it out (then replace the lock). How much space is there behind the lock, i dont wanna hit something if i drill it out.... Cheers.

  • @MrDjarvis11 You'd have to be careful because there are cables not too far behind the lock, but no vital components because at that level it's just the hard drive bays, which are all covered by a load of plastic.

  • Did the box have any SATA cables? great vid.

  • @latitudehopper Don't think so, obviously only the one used for the preinstalled hard drive. Thanks for watching. :)

  • Can backup ur Mac on it

  • @thomasmovesinc Not with Time Machine unless you managed to get OS X Server to run on it but you can't just install OS X on a PC, Apple don't make it that easy. :/ I suppose you could use some other backup software though and just run an OS on the MicroServer that would let it just act as a file server.

  • @latitudehopper All four drive bays are already cabled up. All you need to do is pull out the empty enclosure, screw in your SATA HDD and push it firmly back in.

  • @kwajtube watch the rest of the video - duh!

  • will ESXi 5.0 run on it?

  • Nice vid - which drives did you use on this box? Oh and save your money buying cat6 leads - it makes no difference over that distance when being plugged into a small desktop switch

  • great vid, as always. jake! i especially like the hands-on aspect of the video.

  • Pro-lee-int, pro-lie-ent.....I don't even know how to say it! This guy is a crackup!
