How To Install Gns3, Dynamips and Dynagen on Ubuntu 10.04.mp4

For those preparing for any of the Cisco certification Exams, unless you have much money to purchase a few routers for hands on configuration, Gns3, Dynamips and Dynagen is something that you'll have to consider.

Gns3 is a GUI that works with the Dynamips emulator engine for simulating Router configuration on your computer (PC or Mac). It also require Dynagen to work. This package combination is free to install on any of the major operating systems.

A key requirement is the Cisco IOS image for the router that you will need to simulate. You can get the image by googling it, say "c2691 IOS image".... and downloading it, say, from a torrent site or some other links.

This tutorial shows you how to install it on Ubuntu OS and how to configure it and determine the right value for the Idle-PC parameter.

download the gns3 0.7.2, and dynamips-0.2.8-RC2-x86, As the gns3 that comes with ubuntu 10.04 is an older version,

after doing a bit reading i have found that extracting the cisco ios, from its bin format work a bit better,

Thanks kawale10 for your comment. One important point to note is that repositories on Ubuntu are actually the most recent "stable" releases rather than the most recent versions.

Also, as you have noted, The bin version works better on gns3 as the user does not need to extract it separately. The bin version is what I actually use and can be obtained easily by googling. Thanks for your opinion.

Great tutorial man.. Just one problem with me is that GNS3 doesn't comes up with the default ubuntu 10.04 . So I have to install it from the sources. After running gns3 file and importing the correct IOS files, it opens beautifully. But, after that as I drag the router then it just shows the message that dynamips is unable to start at port 7200. Any solutions??
