Used to see a lot of Blue Racers at my dads farm in west Michigan. I think they fed on Garter snakes and we had tons of those around which probably attracted the racers. Blue Racers tend to be aggressive and will come after you if you bother them.

We see a lot of Black Racers here. VERY fast snakes. Tame down pretty quick after only a few bites.. LOL

beautiful snakes. i've always loved blue racers. used to have them here in calif. but haven't seen one in like 60 years now. have seen some striped and green racers but they rarely make it across the roads. by the way never hold a snake by it's tail like that it's insensitive bordering on mean. they need bodily support if you're gonna mess with them. and thanks for letting it go.

Blue Racers do not exist in California, sorry to burst your bubble. What you saw was probably some sort of Whipsnake, or coachwhip. The way I held the snake was perfectly fine and didn't hurt the snake in anyway. Thanks for your two cents...

I recently found a blue racer nest full of a dozen 7'' juveniles.

Highly doubt that story, Blue Racers don't make "nests." Juveniles hatch in the fall and then disperse to wintering sites.
