Brett Solomon is the co-founder and Executive Director of Accessnow.org - a new global movement for digital freedom. Before that he was the Campaign Director at Avaaz.org, and before that the first Executive Director of GetUp! an Australian grass roots political organisation with over 300,000 members.
-------------------
TEDxSydney 2010 was organised by General Thinking and took place on Saturday 22 May 2010 at CarriageWorks. Almost 2,000 people enjoyed the day, over 700 in the theatre and the rest via big screen simulcast in The Forum. It was a grand day.
About TEDx, x = independently organised event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organised events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organised TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organised.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Well done to all people in Australia who contributed to the internet filter bill being scrapped till 2012! Well done to all politicians, activists, people donating and working for this!
Just 1 thing: Brett says people in Iran cannot get a gmail account. That's strange because my boyfriend's sister who lives in Iran has a gmail account, and there were no qualms about getting one, or any trouble.
Also, based on knowing many Iranians, they would be much savvier with circumventions than Australians.
