This video does not do justice to just how incredibly, mind-shatteringly loud this thing is. It's a tiny jet turbine on a cart, used to produce power for starting the main engines on large jet aircraft, commonly called a "huffer.". This one had been sitting idle for more than two years outside, and our instructor Ric, along with Garret, Christian, and some other folks nursed it back to health.

  • @OakRidgeBob I was half expecting this one to have a failure of some sort, either a bearing coming apart or a turbine disk exploding. I imagine that makes one hell of a bang!

  • Oh, I know just how loud they are - I used to fix them, and the JFS for the F-15 and F-16 in our shop at Nellis. Loud as hell, and even scarier when they come apart on the test stand.
