Cathédrales - by the eminent French Composer and Organist - Louis Vierne (1870 - 1937) - 1927 - From his Fourth Suite - Opus 55 - the 24 Pièces de Fantaisie for Organ. In fact Louis Vierne's most famous piece is probably his Carillon of Westminster from the Third Suite of the Pièces de Fantaisie, which is variations on the chimes of Big Ben. Cathédrales is played by Denise Hewitt on Technics SX-PR903 Digital Keyboard in Synthesised Cathedral Organ Mode. According to the Sheet Music Manuscript, the composition is dedicated to Louis Vierne's student, Edward Chippen Barnes, Organist in Philadelphia, USA

The Photo in the opening titles and closing credits was shot by Denise and shows some of the beautiful stained glass windows in the famous Winchester Cathedral.

  • Darling Silke! I'm so pleased that you enjoyed my performance of this rarely heard composition by Louis Vierne:) It is absolutely magnificant, and of course I'm still practicing & improving the harder sections for a future recording! Love & Hugs - Denise

  • What a piece of music, Denise - a work like a cathedral. And a wonderful one, it helped me so much to calm down and come to myself after a hard and busy day. It reminds me of Francis Poulenc's "Litanies de la Vierge Noire", one of my favourites. C'est magnifique!

  • I'm thrilled that you enjoyed this powerful composition which is an absolute classic, and I'm hoping that my recording will encourage others to study the brilliant works of Louis Vierne:) Denise

  • Yes! This piece is extremely difficult since it full of chromatic harmonies and exotic chord patterns! You'll see that it lasts for nearly 10 minutes, and it takes every second of intense concentration:) Best Wishes - Denise
