I'm excited that my search is over for the original song that the band is playing at the beginning of this funky vid:
"You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover" - off the Signed, Sealed, Delivered album. They are slowing it down and funking it out in this video, but it's definitely the bassline.
(This has taken me 6 years to ascertain.)
