Just finished this 90 sec spot for the Berkeley Path Wanderers. The group is dedicated to reopening and restoring public access pathways throughout the Berkeley Hills. The paths, and there are over 200 of them, were originally built to provide shortcuts for hill dwellers to travel by foot down to the vast trolley system in Berkeley that connected to Oakland and San Francisco. A map of all the pathways is available for purchase on their website.
I missed that work party! I knew it was going to be a special event. As I understand it the current President, Colleen Neff, wanted it completed, and wanted to have a little opening celebration. It was the longest path we (BPWA) ever opened. It took over a year, and well over 200 steps,. not to mention installing retaining walls. I personally spent about 20 hours helping to construct this path, since I'm out of work.
