Empire Total War - Getting the best graphics and performance speed from your PC !

Ok so I thought that I'd make a short-ish video showing what graphic settings I use to run Empire total War. I don't have a great PC, its not top of the range, my graphics card is deffinately my PC's weakest point. However I don't have the money to upgrade, and with these settings I don't need a new one.

So the basic points of the video are:

-If your not happy with how Empire is running, but you don't want to really lose out on detail try dropping the shader model down to 2, and put the texture and filtering settings up.

man i hate my laptop it's five years old and when ever i play this game the menu background is pink and the text boxes have not text in them and on top of that it lags like crap! does anyone else have this same problem?

I think you kinda answered your own questiom. If your laptop is 5 years old and unless it wasa top of the range gaming one back then it's really going to struggle to run ETW etc. What's its specs? the no text boxes and pink screen is 1 of 2 possibilities. 1 - your laptop is just too weak / old to run the game or 2 - you need to update your graphics drivers. how it will still probably lag badly.

You'd be much better of getting a desktop PC instead of a laptop if you want to game on mate. PM me your reply as It'll mean I can send you some links to laptops / PC's and it'll be easier for me to keep track of!

I have the nVidia Geforce GT555M 2gb and all other options except low graphic settings are greyed out. Am I missing something here? I can play Shogun 2: total war, Skyrim and Fallout 3/Fallout New Vegas Maxed no lag. What's going on there?

@lionheartx10 i have done what you did in this vid on shogun 2. But when I do it and play campain the sea water looks to cartoony out. But have it something with the shader model or something with any other thing,please?:)

I can play shogun 2 on high settings atleast but empire only on medium and it lags ALOT More than shogun 2

@lionheartx10 As you outlined in your Shogun 2 video, having shadows on has an absurd cost on your FPS. I actually find the visuals of my game improve with shadows disabled - furthermore, it comes as very amusing to me that the game proposes shadows to be on 'high' on my automatic settings when playing this game with shadows above 'low' is not dissimilar to spawning hundreds of enemies in a modern FPS.
