@Jaapman It's like you're in a completely different world. This is not about isolationism. This is about survival. In Europe, the right of self determination has been widely accepted as the basis for statehood (though not always fulfilled). If we take two nations and force them into one state, when the one nation is 15 times the size of the other nation, the smaller nation disappears. A person who supports this sort of national suicide is a traitor by any reasonable standard.
-
@Jaapman I can't answer that. I don't know what will happen in 50 years, but I know that, as a South African, I'm going to do what I can to improve the situation. It would be traitorous to both my white and black friends to NOT contribute as much as I can.
So stand there and piss on us with your fear-mongering and diatribes. You may be right that there are some ignorant people in power, but it won't last forever.
At least I hope not.
And I'm staying.

@Jaapman Jaapman, this isn't the 50's anymore where cultures can try and live in complete isolation from other. We wouldn't have jazz, Michael Jordan or Eminem if it was such a terrible occurrence to give and take from each others cultures. In fact TIger Woods wouldn't even be alive if his parents couldn't 'give' a little to another race.
I stand by my word. Even if this doesn't satisfy you musically, there's no reason why you shouldn't celebrate white and black on stage together.

@jamesmairi The real new SA, as opposed to the American/European hippie pipe dream people were sold, means the end of a culture and a nation. It means the ethnic cleansing of SA of Afrikaners and other whites by means of "reverse" discrimination" a terror campaign of crime and violence, the genocide of farmers in the countryside, Zimbabwe like land grabs, open door (black) immigration policy and cultural oppression of Afrikaners. In 50 years, there will be nothing left. Do you support this?
-
@jamesmairi When you isolate an issue and take it out of its context, you can make anything sound ridiculous. If I want to dress up as a red Indian, put a feather in my hair and pretend to be something I'm not- that is my prerogative. However- if you see Afrikaans culture being polluted with "African-ism" when it is already under heavy pressure, it is an indication of much more. You are being intellectually dishonest if you pretend this is not the case.

@Jaapman Have you actually listened to the lyrics of the tune? It goes back to my original question: may white people not dance to African rhythms? What about white musicians? Are they allowed to play African music?
And are they really kissing up to the new rulers? I think you're misreading an effort of inclusivity for ass-kissing. Either way, I'm all for it. Any action that in any promotes the REAL NEW South AFrica (as opposed to your fear-filled separatist agenda), is brilliant.
-
@jamesmairi and if you are a South African then shame on you for betraying your people. You know full well that these people are dancing to an African rhythm. You also know that they are kissing- up to the new rulers. These people are scared so they include their enemies into the program. It is absolutely absurd to hear that African with his heavy accent sing about the "weermag die polisie en die predikant"- give me a break. Who includes their mortal enemies in a celebration of ones own culture??

@Jaapman I never asked for a history lesson and I think I'm pretty au fait with SA, both historically and with regards to current affairs.
My only two questions, which you never answered, were:
1) Where is the white person trying to emulate a black person's body language?
2) Is dancing restricted to blacks, no matter how (un)aesthetic it is in your eyes?
-
@jamesmairi if you were a South African I would ask why you insist on deceiving yourself. According to your profile you are an American, so I will assume you are simply ignorant of both the history and the current situation of SA. The "New SA" is a farce. Simply put, it means that SA has simply replaced one dominant tribe for another. The whites are being discriminated against and being made to leave the country which was theirs for hundreds of years. These people are a group of fellow travelers.

@Jaapman Great spirit of togetherness there, Jaapman.
Would you mind pointing out the white person trying to imitate black body language? Or is moving to music restricted only to blacks and not humans in general?
Also not sure where the 'government' is in this picture. In my eyes it's just a traditionally white show doing their level best to be inclusive in what we now call the NEW South Africa.
