Opel sold to Russia and Canada

Germany's Opel has been sold with a joint-Russian-Canadian bid the winner in the race to buy one of Europe's oldest and most well-known carmakers.

Opel wont become Russian just because you hold most shares it's always been and will always be a German brand just like BMW and Mercedes.

It's only a Russian bank that is co financing handing Opel over into the hands of Magna. Magna one day will probably buy the Russian shares. But bear in mind a bank is not producing cars. This is still somehow an American and very soon Austrian, Canadian but most of all German brand. I think it's sad that GM cannot afford Opel anymore but I'm kind of glad it's an Austrian and Canadian company that in the end will run Opel.

Interesting how this is reported from a russian perspective. From a german perspective, Opel will expand into Russia and not be taken over by them. Longterm at least one big state owned manufacturer (depending on which one Sperbank chooses) will be fully consolidated as a part of german based Opel. The russian politicians and news agencies are either stupid or they are afraid of telling the truth. Who owns how much of Opel is an entirely different matter.

US will never let Russia to go with Opel so Opel will never be Russian. Opel is a technology generator for GM and a base for a number compact and midside vehicle including Chevy-Impala, Cadillac-BLS and Saab-9-5. In fact it is as vital for Government Motors that they can even start a WW3 about it. Of course it won't nappend since they'll ram Magna more peacefully.

It's so grate for Russia to buy technologies and probably decrease wastes of resources such as metal, energy, and peope's money by making good cars..

I do hope it helps decreasing deaths in car accidents on the roads in the future..

It's great for opel because now the GM won't take them away from russia because there is the chevrolet the manga will generate the best thecnology for opel and the astra s are great for russia because it's cheap and great but the richer russians can get insignia i wonder what will happen with vauxhall, saturn and the europan chevrolet because they steal cars from opel
