I live near a railway, and nothing used to beat the sound of a sulzer going into the distance in the early morning when I was in bed, kind of cosy, going on for miles; going who-knows where; kapluka ta plukataa etc !!!

Hey. Well come live here in New Zealand and drive trains then!, we have soo many idiots running the barriers and running lights only crossings it beg belief !
That meaning we will NEVER go to automation. and the reason for the deaths is that in rural areas, from tar sealed roads to gravel there is normally a crossing without barriers. or Australia would be a good start for you!, Western Aus has a fanatical train network!
