Cutting 3/4-10 threads in brass on a Ganesh 16X40 Lathe.

This is a demo of the Inventor Cut Thread Animation previously posted.

This is a straight cut with a 60 degree carbide threading bit. I do quite a lot of threading of various sizes from 8-32, 1/4-20 1/8-27 1/2-13, 3/4-10 are some common sizes.

Sorry if it's a little shaky. Machining and filming at once can be tricky. I'll try to post more as time permits.

  • A bit off topic but given your experience with brass rods...is there a generally accepted method of curving a threaded brass rod to a given radius. Stock is 8-32 half hard brass curved to a radius of 7.14 inches. Length is not critical but figure about 6 inches. I know it comes in roughly 36 inch lengths. The full length can be curved then cut down.

This is used in building astronomical equipment. Basically I'm looking for a technique that can be used with basic machinist tools and skills
