This video of a dynamic SSS Clutch model shows the main torque transmitting teeth of an SSS Clutch moving in and out of engagement whilst rotating at high speeds.

The model demonstrates how an SSS Clutch functions within a single shaft combined cycle gas turbine (SSCCGT) power plant. The red component (SSS Clutch input) would be connected to a steam turbine, whereas the green (SSS Clutch output) would be connected to the gas turbine / generator side.

Several hundred SSS Clutches are installed within SSCCGT power plants e.g. Enfield, Kings Lynn, Cartagena, Tapada, Taranaki, Irsching, Palos de la Frontera, Huntstown, Voghera etc.. SSS Clutches are specified in the SSCCGT reference plants of Siemens, Alstom, MHI and Ansaldo.

Our other movies show hand models, which demonstrate SSS Clutch function statically.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS VIDEO INCLUDES FOOTAGE OF A STROBOSCOPIC (FLASHING) LIGHT.

  • Need to engage @2800rpm, then go to a top speed of 5000rpm, only small hp 115(shp).

Do you have a sss clutch that could do this?

    Brett.

  • @imenotyou

    Brett,

Thank you for your enquiry. Assuming we have understood your enquiry properly, then your 115 SHP @ 2,800 rpm engagement is well within our repertoire.

Have sent a reply to your email.

Regards and happy New Year !

  • Can u make a simple video on how the clucth works.

  • @xXACElongcon13HDXx

Thank you for your comment. Basic SSS Clutch function is demonstrated using our hand operated model. Have a peek at the other videos on our channel !

Thanks again, and please let us know if you require any further assistance

Thank you for your comment. youtube will not let me post links, but if you click "SSSGearsltd" at the top of this youtube page, then go to our videos, you will see that we have uploaded three videos - this one plus two others which show how the SSS Clutch functions.

If you are still stuck, then please email me at engineering @ sssgears dot co dot uk and I will email you the link and some other electronic info.

  • Also, synchromesh requires the gears to be pushed towards mesh to function (either manually or with a controlled actuator type system), whereas the SSS Clutch is fully automatic and engages whenever input speed > output speed, then disengages input speed < output speed.

Thanks again for your excellent question.

  • Excellent question.

The idea of synchronised connect / disconnect drive is similar to that of synchromesh, however synchromesh friction is not well suited for high power / high inertia jobs. See also Y100 powerplant page on Hazegray which describes SSS Clutches replacing friction / dog clutches (similar to synchromesh) which were originally installed in the British, US and Canadian Navy gas turbine propulsion drives.

  • Symilar to a sycronizer in a manual transmission no?

  • cool
