All roads lead to Damascus... Simply put, the people who contributed to the 1971 motion-picture 'Von Richthofen and Brown' gave a lasting gift to World War I aviation --- Lives were risked and lost in making this film! The mood, the atmosphere, and the meaning in VR&B is virtually INCESSANT. It's an experience... an epiphany. The film says all there is to say about the politics of war and peace, life and death, and the clashing of virtues, values, and personalities. Moreover, it does so in an impressive and indelible fashion.
If I had to put a warning label on this film it would read --- "View Responsibly." The movie is deceivingly easy to digest, however, the proverbial punch you're drinking has been spiked several times over. I believe the New York Times alluded to this in their 1971 film review. A serious psychological drama is dressed as a simple action film --- It's hard to find a parallel... on any level.
