I tend to shake my head a bit when people go on about the so-called "Golden Ratio" being somehow special. You have 2 line segments of lengths a & b. a+b:a = a:b ~= φ
φ being an irrational number close to 1.618.
So? It's interesting. But hardly in the same class as π or e. I'd give give an ancient civilization a bonus point for noticing. But I certainly would penalize one for not noticing or caring.
