Learn to read real-life Japanese with JapanesePod101.com!

Arriving in Japan, the amount of complicated Japanese text on the street, in stores, and on appliances can be overwhelming. With Everyday Kanji, you can break down these signs into simple elements in order to understand even the most complicated Japanese. Take the quiz at the end to see how much you remember!

This episode, we are looking at Menu signs that have prices in kanji. These days, most restaurants use numbers written in Arabic numerals like we are used to, but some use kanji numbers. This video looks at the kanji for prices and menu items.

Thanks for all the suggestions on our previous videos. We are trying to constantly improve, so if you have any more suggestions on this series, let us know in the comments section below!

  • wow, it went from really easy to super duper hard!!!!!!

    TO MANY KANJI!!!!

  • It must be the handwritten aspect as well :) Ganbatte kudasai!!

  • Why are the numbers on the menu things like 六〇〇円 instead of 六百円?

  • You will also see 六百円 used in some menus too! This particular restaurant just happens to use 〇 for the zeros :)

  • Very Good Video :) Keep Up The Excellent Work :)

  • Thank you very much~!
