More important than just being fast is the stability at high speeds. Even at max speed the steering wheel doesn't shake at all in the drivers hands. Clarkson has said also that he has been talking to people who own veyron and lots of other supercars and they all say that whats really sets veyron apart from the others is that all other cars when starting to reach their limit feel like falling apart – veyron doesn't.
