Cyclist runs into my path (Galway)

Observe closely what happens at around 0:18 (c. 16:16:20 on the original 'timecode'). The cyclist suddenly and unexpectedly appears from behind road signs. Why have Galway City Council "road engineers", in their highly-educated wisdom, chosen to place the signs in such a manner as to conceal any person crossing from right to left? What if this was a person in a wheelchair, or someone pushing a child in a buggy? This is the kind of dangerous incompetence that Galway City Council is famous for.

video quality sucks on your camera, dude....sorry.

To all the doubters. His manouver was acceptable. He crossed the roundabout correctly. Typical of Galway and Limerick (Plus most of Ireland) the road signs are put so low as to obscure the view.
-
granted the cyclist was wrong.but you were in wrong lane at the roundabout.left lane for second exit not the right lane.

At this hour in late April, any cyclist with any cop-on would be properly lit and should ideally have some hi-viz gear also. Any cyclists venturing out in low light without being properly visible is looking for trouble.

Paradoxically, such behaviour is actually more dangerous than confidently cycling on the road and carefully observing the regular rules of driving. It has been known for many years that manoeuvres of this kind greatly increase the risk of collision, yet Local Authority policy continues to direct, or invite, cyclists to proceed in this fashion.

...since bicycles are legally road vehicles. However, poor driving standards generally, Galway's dangerous roads, almost total lack of effective law enforcement, and daft local and national policies and practices with regard to cycling lead many cyclists to use pedestrian facilities. Out of fear of roundabouts, many cyclists traverse such junctions using the pedestrian facilities, which are in themselves substandard.

2. Is this really a "cyclist"? By definition a cyclist would not "run" into your path. The truth is, this is a typically messy situation brought about by poor cycling standards and by Galway City Council's incompetent, dangerous and anti-cyclist roads infrastructure. Because of the murky quality of the video, I cannot identify with certainty whether the cyclist is cycling or pushing their bike. If they are cycling, then by definition they should not be on pedestrian facilities...

Interesting & thought-provoking video, even if the quality is a bit murky & the alleged lessons a bit unclear. A few observations, in no particular order.
1. This roundabout has now been removed, & has been replaced by a junction with "intelligent" traffic lights. It seems that a very large number of motorists are unhappy with the outcome, but apparently the set-up is safer & more convenient for pedestrians and cyclists. Galway's many roundabouts are widely regarded as very cycle-hostile.
I hear you installed the horn I recommended... :-D
Cyclists and pedestrians are the worst, followed by average car drivers... No concept of safety, observation, or consideration...

you were in the wrong lane for that exit, only one lane leads into that exit and two lanes lead into the dublin road exit, take out your rules of the road and study it........

Its only a 2 lane roundabout for a start. And you can exit via the middle lane if the left lane [indicated by road markings] blocked (as it was in rush hour traffic)

I do believe you were in the wrong lane for that exit. The right lane is for exiting on the Dublin road. I think the cyclist didn't expect you to come off the roundabout while you were in that lane.

You can exit through both exits on that roundabout. The left lane was obstructed so I exited through the middle lane (the road markings confirm this. I indicated at that exit (a rarity in Galway) so he really should have been looking!
