Please read, it may answer your question.

Final verdict: I think Fusion 3 has a bright future ahead. I'm sure there will be further tweaks to the OS X side, and as well as some to the Windows side to improve 3D and sound performance. I also do realize that it was not meant to only play games, but to support DirectX9 and OpenGL 2.1. As far as easy of use and overall ability, this is by far the best virtualization software I have ever used.

System info:
17" Macbook Pro (Summer 2009)
2.8Ghz C2D
4GB DDR3 1066
9600GT

VM Settings
Set to two cores.
2GB Ram given to system
Running Win7 x64

Yes, I know I said the graphics don't really matter. I know they do, but I don't have anything to monitor GPU load, so I'm assuming it is unable to take full advantage of the GPU for other reasons. If you have some useful input on this I will be glad to hear it.

Yes, I did record it with a digital camera. This is very CPU intensive, so I wasn't about to use my screen recorder on it.

  • Performance seemed OK. I'm planning on using VMWare Fusion 4 with my 2011 MBP 15-inch to run SolidWorks 2011. Do you think this would be viable? I've noticed that my OSX runs out of RAM quite quickly when set to 2GB per OS, but the Windows score index scores it a respectable 6.0 ( - RAM Score).

I hope an upgrade to 8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM should sort it out.

    Specs: 2.2GHz Core i7 (SB: 3.3GHz), 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 RAM, AMD 6750M 1GB.

  • lag?

  • I want to run workstation on windows vista/7 to run xp and run back to directx 5.0 games. Now that's my unrealized dream. I just am getting tied of maintaining older machines and keeping all of what I can salvage around waiting for the day a solution comes along. Even better would be some 9x love with the first 3 directx upto maybe 7 ... and the period correct opengl and even glide ... ah I miss those days

  • Lol have you tried changing the settings? When you give it more ram and processors your gameplay will be more smoothly

  • I got left 4 dead 2 for it and it extremely lags, like... its unplayable lag....

  • I just bought and installed VMware Fusion 3 on my MacBook Pro 15" and I must say I'm not very happy. Bootcamp or even CrossOver Games seem to do better...don't feel much from the DirectX 9 support either...sad!
