the early demo of "Wham Bam" with different lyrics and arrangement. In my opinion it sounds much better than the final product. The video is just a sampler of the documentary "The life and times of Steve Marriott".

  • This is very interesting but is in no way better than the version the Small Faces chose to release. I did discuss "Wham Bam" with Steve but we discussed differences between the Small Faces version and the version on his 1st solo LP. The Small Faces made their artistic statement---the correct one. The released version is one of their greatest achievements and proved they could rock as hard as Cream, Hendrix & the soon-to-come Pie.

  • @AgentOfSTERANKO couple of details making me like more the "early demo" to the final and posthumous single release [1st] my "roots" are strongly into the Small Faces sound, never been a Humble Pie fan until recently (and I still do not like most of their post-Eat it stuff), so this demo for me has still all the SF dynamics and sounds/arrangements the final Wham Bam lost [2nd] the production of Wham Bam is pretty dull and blurred, the hard rock riffing guitar upfront all the rest lost in the mix

  • So much better than Wham Bam...what were they thinking ditching this version? The Small Faces were smokin' brilliant rockers, but sometimes they made some strange moves.

  • Thanks for the vid. Steve's voice certainly became more interesting after it changed!

And I agree this version of Wam Bam, Thank You Mam is superior to the final product. And I'd guess Ronnie Lane probably prefered this one as well.

  • I also like this version better than the later "Wham Bam" version. It's a lot tighter and livelier than "Wham Bam". Besides, the lead vocals on "Wham Bam" sound more like Rod Stewart than Steve Marriott.

  • I like this version better, too. It's a lot livelier and tighter than the later "Wham Bam" version. The lead vocals on "Wham Bam" sound more like Rod Stewart than Steve Marriot.

  • @AgentOfSTERANKO I completely agree. The released version sounds harder, has more bite, and I think it's their most rockin' song. This is good too, but the 5:11 minute version is better, imo, and even the lyrics are better on it, again more bite. I'm speaking of this version: watch?v=D6Z4gvQKQNA

Thanks for the upload b/c it's definitely interesting to see where it progressed.

  • This version was released in Australia with "Afterglow"on the other side(Immediate IM-8721).Been my fav. version for 43 yrs. so far.

  • Just the best ! Not THE best but if you want to know about this band and the man you have ALOT to learn- trust me. He was the cheekiest cockney charmer out there! And he has touched thousands!

  • @gropingwithastoker Along with that, she's got to play the guitar.

  • @Khultan No doubt about her DNA, that's for sure.

  • @gropingwithastoker Thank you! I'm surprised today by your information. She's DYNAMITE!!! : ) : )

  • @Khultan His daughter Mollie Marriott is a singer. You find some of her work out here.
