"The Help Conquer Cancer project has automated and accelerated a process for that makes it easier examine the structure of cancer-related proteins. It is powered by World Community Grid, an IBM-sponsored endeavor which pools the unused processor power of 1.5 million personal computers owned by hundreds of thousands of volunteers in 80 countries -- essentially creating one of the world's most powerful supercomputers. Other Grid research projects are aimed at creating more nutritious food, as well as fighting AIDS, Dengue Fever, and muscular dystrophy."
