Fare you well, my honey, fare you well my only true one.
All the birds that were singing are flown, except you alone.

I'm Going to leave this broke down palace,
On my hands and my knees, I will roll, roll, roll.
Make myself a bed by the waterside,
In my time,in my time, I will roll, roll, roll.

In a bed, in a bed, by the waterside I will lay my head.
Listen to the river sing sweet songs, to rock my soul.

River going to tame me, sing sweet and sleepy,
sing me sweet and sleepy all the way back home.
It's a far gone lullaby, sung many years ago.
Mama, mama many worlds I've come since I first left home.

Going' home, going' home, by the waterside I will rest my bones,
Listen to the river sing sweet songs, to rock my soul.

Going to plant a weeping willow,
By the bank's green edge it will grow, grow, grow.
Sing a lullaby beside the water,
Lovers come and go, the river roll, roll, roll.

Fare you well, fare you well, I love you more than words can tell,
Listen to the river sing sweet songs, to rock my soul.

  • What are you talking about? It IS titled Brokedown Palace. And it's a great song. Joan may never have gotten to sing it with The Dead but she has sung it with Phil Lesh and Friends. Joan is amazing and so are The Dead and this is a wonderful combination of song, singer and band. I've seen Joan do this with her band many times.

  • Nice! I've learned to appreciate Joan as a singer. She's got a good touch with a ballad.

  • @travelmanfull just because jackie greene has a pretty voice doesn't mean anything. he's just kind of lame.

  • I don't think they let her sing it because it's one of the oldest sacred Jerry ballads that rest with him, she does a great job with it though.

  • Very Nice. Thanks for posting this!

  • Its nice to hear a decent Dead cover

  • @standardflake I have to disagree. Jackie Greene is the best thing that happened to the dead after 2000. Watch Jackie Greene and Phil Lesh perform Brokedown Palace at Phil's house. Then compare with this version and even the Jerry Garcia's and decide for yourself.

  • joan rocks warren's socks off. she was the best thing that happened to the dead after 2000.

  • Maybe they never let her sing it because she just doesn't do it justice. Such a beautiful song, sang by Jerry, not Joan.

  • this is terrible and someone should put an end to it.. i've heard jackie greene do this and it sounds good, this sounds like shit.. wow
