The original term " Tar baby" is not in reference to a person at all, but a doll made up of tar and/or sorghum to look like a person and as the old tale has it, whoever came in contact with it would get stuck and when freed would look an awful mess. Sadly, some ignorant jackass back in the day used it in reference to black people.Therefore whenever the word is used, people naturally take it as an offensive term no matter the original intention.

Uh-huh, much like obama's special olympics remark on leno or his having sat in front of the rev wright's pulpit and never once noticed any of the racist anti semitic inflamatory hate america rantings which were evidently routine with his chosen off the railes churchman. Thing is though, me personally? I'm not disturbed by any of it. What does bother me though is that every public remark is fodder to be picked apart by the PC police making us scared to say anything isnt from a prepared script.
