Chai Kennel Cough.avi

This 15 year old Chihuahua has what is commonly called Kennel Cough.
It should clear itself within 14 days, as long as he is kept quiet and rested.

Yes Chai did hack as well as cough. If your dog is only 9 years old I would take him to the Vet for sure. Our dog was put to sleep in late January, he was terribly sick and distressed in the last days of his life. Chihuahua should live to at least 14 years or longer.

Thanks for your kind thoughts. We now have a new Chihuahua and he is totally vaccinated against everything!!

Chai was not vaccinated against "kennel cough". He should have been as we now know.

But it is similar to whooping cough in humans.

It just started one day with him coughing. We had to put him down in late January, he was just too sick and too distressed. Sad!

Aw, poor thing! My sister took her pit bul to get nutuered for free at a local shelter (since they were advertizing it for pits and cats). He came hom ewith kennel cough!!! Poor thing had to take anti biotics and wear a cone around his head and heal from getting his balls taken out! He's 100% better now! :D His dignity is all he lost at the shelter clinic.

a dog this old should always be treated with antibiotics if they get kennel cough.

are westies have kennel cough but its only just started so hopefully we have cought it at the right time, the vets gave me synulox for them

Poor dog, my chi was up there in his age plus he had started having seizures, the vet said that it would only get worse so my grandmother did the right thing even though it was hard, she put him down.

can your dog hack with this cough? my chihuahua is coughing and hacking like shes going to throw up. shes 9 years old, recently we got an american pit bull terrier who loves to "attack" her, could she be getting overworked? should i take her to the vet ASAP?
