Sarah,
That'd be a dun horse that is bucking. Should just have one "n" in dun, but who's counting! Good tune, guys.

You're not supposed to hold a fiddle like that!

Steve, What is a "Buckin Dunn"? You guys should go on the road!! Sarah

Both "Bob-tailed mule" and "Buckin Dun" are from the Arizona fiddler K.C. kartchner. They are two different tunes. The one you are playing here is "Bob-tailed mule." Many of Kartchner's tunes were on the tape that accompanied his biography, now out of print. The two tunes are often confused, due to an error by the Deseret String Band on one of their tapes in the 80s. On the Kartchner tape, before playing "Buckin' Dun," he can be heard clearly saying "Buckin' Dun." Two great tunes!

Neat. I am guessing you started playing guitar or banjo first, and so felt more natural with your left hand low.. and so started playing off shoulder.. am I right??

Exactly right. Played guitar for a lot of years before trying the fiddle. This method of holding it feels very comfortable for me and the more traditional violin hold was quite uncomfortable. You are right on with your guess.
