@RelaxednCaIm Nah this is by far the best song lyrically on the album, Sly Fox is probably second. But nothing comes close to this on the album. All the shots at 50, the references to Black Panther leaders and contrasting it to young black youths killed in racist attacks, the rhyme schemes...it is honestly a brilliant piece of lyricism. I think Jay E at least co-wrote it.

it's possible but not likely, it's also "possible" that jungle wrote illmatic. on top of that, this isn't the best song on the album, it's not even a song. america is the best song on that album lyrically, followed by sly fox. and honestly the flow is nothing like j.e.'s on this track.

so basically you have no proof other than a hunch even though nas was dropping tracks like blackness etc back before j.e. was rapping. if you're going to accuse you need proof.

fuck tht gay ass nigga fred y is he even on the adds?

@RelaxednCaIm It has nothing to do with the production. Unless you know indepth about certain rapper's styles and cadences, you wouldn't hear it, but it's clear to niggas that are well versed in this shit that Jay Elec wrote this (at the very least, some of it).

@ThatwasTERRIBLE I just used those as examples to say how the style is extremely similar to Jay E's, the flow is too. This was by far the best track on the album, none of the other tracks on the album were that impressive, this is arguably a top ten Nas song lyrically. Ever. "I'm Huey P in Louis V at the Eulogy throwing Molotovs for Emmett", the whole thing is damn incredible. Why didn't Nas match up to it in the rest of the album? Cmon bro, it's atleast possible Jay E helped or even wrote this.

@MrCommenterguy Oh wow. I guess references to messiahs and Mohammed Ali are exclusive to Jay electronica only. The Bible made references to a messiah also, so I guess Electronica must have written that too...

@RelaxednCaIm Nas has been on his game for 18 years now. The man has mastered the different styles of rap. Not only can you give nas a good beat and create a classic, but him and jay elect are close, they have to rub off on eachother, possibly even breathe life into a rapper who has had some tough years of nothing to work with. 10 years in the game, after ive enjoyed my fame, only then ill let you pick my brain.

Jay Electronica does have a lot of similar references (seriously he makes the same references over and over, which i like) but I don't know if he wrote it for Nas, maybe it's just what sprouted out of them working on this song and hanging out. I'm sure they talk and speculate about all the references you mentioned.
who the fuck cares who wrote it. its two of the greatest conscious lyricists ever coming on the track together to send a message. mayb nas wrote the whole thing or j elect wanted nas to say a few lines that he came up with cuz nas voice is more powerful, meaning nas has more fans than j elect, than his. id rather have 1 of these guys spit the lyrics than have them both not makee the song cuz they disputing who should rhyme. whether it was nas or j elect on the lyrics it still is the illest song

@MrCommenterguy
nas has referenced boxing, civil rights leaders, messiahs, gonvernment conspiracies, etc before. thats the good thing about nas', he doesn't have one writing style. what's so unearthly about pi that nas can't make a reference? the word messiah? lmao. i guess j elect wrote leaders off distant relatives too, because nas made references that he normally doesn't make. the song reminds you of j because he used his unique production style. doesn't mean he wrote it.
