Sylvester Weaver recorded 'Guitar Rag' in 1927 with it's roots firmly in the blues. A few years later Leon McAuliffe had some success with a piece called 'Steel Guitar Rag' . This was in a popular style at the time known as Western Swing. Sort of a mix of Hawaiian and early Country & Western. McAuliffe more often than not gets the credit for writing this piece but there's no doubting where he got it from!

  • Very nice! I like the color you've added. Might have to steal a few of those ideas :)

Have you ever considered using finger picks? I started using them 3 years ago and I am hooked.

  • Had some picks years ago but never liked them. Don't worry about stealin' my ideas, I stole 'em anyway.

  • Hi Montecitojoe,

Today I became the owner of a resonator. An inexpensive ' Vintage' model but nicely made and a neat addition to my guitar collection.

But ----- It doesn't sound any different than the 'Jazmine' I used in the video. A bit mellower maybe but that could be the medium gauge strings.

Maybe I need to look at fingerpicks to bring out that resonator sound?

  • I look forward to seeing and hearing a new post with your new resonator. I have an inexpensive, Korean-made one. Yes, do try finger picks because you can get more volume when you really need it. And, since you've already mastered playing with your bare fingers, it will just be another mode you can use.
