SHINDIG! (Soul Compilation) - part 2of3

--Major Lance - "Monkey Time"

--Joe Tex - "Hold What You've Got"

--Tina Turner - "Money"
Marvin Gaye - " I'll Be Doggone"

-----------------------------------------

Shindig! was a rock 'n' roll series that ran from September 16, 1964 through January 8, 1966 on the ABC network.

Shindig! was created and produced by Jack Good who had previously produced rock 'n' roll TV shows in his native Britain. There, he perfected his style of fast-paced rock music programing. In 1962, Good produced a pilot for American TV. The pilot, titled "Young America Swings the World," eventually became the blueprint for Shindig!

Most of the top American and British rock/pop acts of the mid-1960s appeared on Shindig!. The British performers often appeared in segments taped in the U.K.

Shindig! was different from previous U.S. rock 'n' roll programs. It featured non-stop music that, in most cases, was only interrupted by the commercial breaks.
Shindig! started a trend in television which could probably best be described as "rock 'n' roll...with go-go dancers."

  • Shindig was a dance/music show catering to teenagers. Major Lance is in the forefront of the stage and all you can focus on is the white girls?

The song is called Monkey Time with Lance calling out dance steps. Would you rather black girls be dancing like monkey's as the song suggests so you can call the show racist?

Be thankful that Shindig and ABC recorded these artists at their peak and preserved the footage for future generations to enjoy.

  • As a child of the sixties thank you for defending shindig as I loved this show for showing these black artist. Those old school dances do look very silly but that was in style then! We must remember that and not be so negative and be positive like your comment. Thanks!

  • tina turner was SO hot

  • I loved this show when I was a teen. I'm glad to see that I can watch episodes here. And "The Monkey Time" was the first record I ever bought. Oh yes...the memories....And thank you!!

  • I was 14 years old watching this video with my sister (Coni) and my best friend Al. I am 62 now and still a Beatles fan

  • The show brought the sound of the songs out alot better than the tinty studio versions you heard on the radio

  • This is so awesome! i love it! :-)))

  • @barriobajaj I'm tell you some people are so funny, regardless of race lol!

  • GOOD to hear James Burton in the 1st part of this! A Shindog & THEE BEST Guitar Lick`s on Earth !

  • @strandwolf .....OK, .I read everything. Two people know the truth. My remaining questions would then be: If Ike and Tina had such a great relationship and grew (like many couples) to appreciate what each other brought, good times and bad, then why did they divorce. And why did Tina take niothing just to get out? And why would she say so many thngs about Ike that are untrue?" Do you see some similarities between Tina and Ronnie Bennett Spector? These guys were bad news. Period.

  • @P Ike Turner had a serious medical issue w/drugs. Anna Mae Bullock had an issue with the truth about their relationship. I would ask you to humor me by going to website run by a musician who worked with Ike and Tina for about the final 7 years of their act. Please google sl-prokeys or just put that plusdotcom in your browser window, go to the main page and click the Ike Turner link and read his version of what happened. Thanks. By the way, C Berry, J Lennon, P Spector, J Brown were tuf on wmn.

  • @strandwolf..... Well...who knows what might have happened to Tina had she left Ike Turner early in their "relationship"? Then again, its hard to endorse Tina hanging around with a guy who beat her brutally (by her own testimony) until she ended up running away and begging for shelter and help.
