A montage of races 2 & 3 (as well as scenes from the pits) of the Formula 5000 Tasman Revival series from Pukekohe raceway, New Zealand. The variety of cars included McLaren, McRae, Begg, Lola, Talon, Matich, March, Eagle and Elfin took part
Have you seen that fullthrottlepublishing are selling Tasman Series 2012 Calendars? Plus it looks like there is a new book as well that's coming out in the new year.
@bobbyray56 For the competition with F1... Well, Yes and no: they have problem keeping up, suffering from gas starvation on long distance, having problem of stability on twisty road like the Nuburgrind, lacking pure speed at track like Monza... They only place where the F5000 where able to beat the F1 was on "stop&go" track, a bit like Montreal, where torque is important ;)
It was a true shame to see F5000 get aborted in the US. It had it all, NASCAR noise, and open wheel action. Those cars could compete with F1 (and did).
That's Poul Christie's 1969 Lola T190, originally raced in South African Championship by John McNichole [2nd 1970, 3rd 1971, 5th 1972]. Poul restored it in 1993 and has raced it, with considerable success ever since. He won the Tasman Revival Series Class A championship this year. Top bloke.
I saw that yellow Lola, #47, at Top Gear Live this weekend. Can anyone tell me anything more about it? Model, Year, Driver, what races it was in, etc?
Awesome stuff !

Ah excellent! I've found some photos of it on Flickr as well, its great to see the classics still being thrashed, like they were designed to be!
