Plasma and LCD panels may look alike, but the flat screen and thin profile is where the similarities end. Plasma screens, as its name suggests, uses a matrix of tiny gas plasma cells charged by precise electrical voltages to create a picture. LCD screens (liquid crystal display) are in laymans terms sandwiches made up of liquid crystal pushed in the space between two glass plates. Images are created by varying the amount electrical charge applied to the crystals. Each technology has its strengths and weaknesses, as youll read below.

A bit of a late reply..but sorry..LCD is not the best qualitywise.. (Made out of plastic most of the time,while plasmas are with glass and metal.),also plasmas cost way more to manufacture..plasma is doomed thanks to the beginning of it's lifecycle along with a lot of lies..like the "refill plasma gas" classic.

it's 2009 and plasma is a dying breed because I've seen less plasma and more lcd in stores. number one reason when i ask people is becuase the fade cloudy whites in plasma after a month. It shows in display models because the plasma looks very faded compares to lcd.
