Portishead - "Only You"

My A Level Art final piece
My theme was "Passions and Obsessions", after studying nightmares, as well as art influenced by nightmares, I was struck by how obsessed the country had become with the UK General Election. Every day the newspapers were showing story after story, wondering who would be the leader of our Country. So I decided to make a nightmarish retelling of the Election, through film, inspired by Francis Bacon in the making of the masks, as well as Tim Burton in the strange nightmarish concept to the film.

Filmed at Tiffin School in Kingston upon Thames between the 24th-25th May 2010

Music used is Portishead's "Only You", property of Island Records, no copyright is intended in the use of this song, it inspired much of the video itself!

@SlowItUpProductions Haha thanks :) Well I spent 4 hours making the masks, and filming it all took less than 8 (lol I should count how long the footage is all together) so pretty much I'm guessing :) thanks very much for watching

That was brilliant!! :) can you explain the metaphor for the tights?

@laura2daisy Haha the tights were from a political drawing I found by Dave Brown, showing political folk with tights on their heads, plus tights distort faces, much like Francis bacon's painting do, helping to create the nightmarish image you see here

@nickgotto Nice :) I love the disorted masks! How long did it take to make them?

@laura2daisy Well the exam days were plit up into hours, I knew I wouldn't have been able to make those masks AND make this feature in that time alone, so I premade the clay casts of them and put modrock on top. Letting these dry, I painted them on Monday for 4 hours and then filmed with them on tuesday
