Five Boys Live at the Orpheus,Belfast
Here's the opener for this last live set from the band under the name FIVE BOYS. (It's also the only gig where the band actually consisted of five boys, having had three-piece, seven-piece and nine-piece line-ups with a sex-mix previously)
The song is Long Weekend which Davy and I wrote during one of Ian Paisley's disruptive outings when he and his 'Third Force' paramilitary-industrial Christians would basically shut down Northern Ireland between Thursday and Monday leaving no shop open, no bus service running and nobody willing to set foot outside who wasn't wrapped in the Union Jack, aled up and tooled up.
I think we made it to the safety of my living room, came up with the idea for the title, wrote it over a cup of tea and then headed for the legendary garage rehearsal/studio to get with Bill our drummer and work the thing out.
Funny thing is we never really rated it at the time even though now I'm impressed by every element from the bass-line to the pop synths and vocal. Nice.
