This is the stunning "Paris" from the equally stunning album "Sunburn" by the sadly neglected Gordie Sampson. I have resorted to posting it on Youtube myself because I wanted to share it with friends online and because the only versions I could find were poorly recorded live versions which don't do the song justice. It would seem that Gordie earns a decent living these days supplying songs for prettier C &W stars like Keith Urban and of late Hunter Hayes but the fact is, he is one of the more recent in the line of great lost rock/pop stars, at least as talented as John Mayer, probably a superior writer and singer, but sadly not as marketable. I hope if Gordie ever reads this he isn't offended. I'm sure he has long ago come to terms with the fact that superstardom isn't about the gift, but the packaging. This song, and the album it came from were from a time when Gordie was still hoping that someone would take notice. Very few did, except for other more well-known artists, like Faith Hill, who turned this song into a hit. As nice a job as she does, her version is not a patch on this original. Perhaps the most romantic lyric ever put on paper it is raw and heartbreaking. Gordie's singing in the final chorus is beyond beautiful. One day the world might realise his gifts.
Many wrote hat to Bob Dylan.
I'm glad he didn't take the advise either.
