quake is pretty similar to TF2 but it has a much higher skill barrier, if you want to, go get quakelive, it's free. and just play around on some servers. it's a lot of fun but pretty serious if you find the right games, and yeah, playing pretty much any fps will make you better at tf2, but none will make you better than just playing tf2.
