@laurensmalter Why? It was 1996, not 1956. It was 3 years after Jurassic Park and 2 years after Forrest Gump, and was filmed/produced around the same time as Titanic. It isn't as if special effects were primitive back then.

Why is there a nuclear plane at 1.45?? I do not recall there were any of those in the movie. Am I mistaking ?

Man Independence Day aliens are sooo high tech compare to the aliens from TV shows and other movies.

@Neithie Battle: Los Angeles was NOT a rip off of this in any stretch of the imagination. I hate to break it to you, but aliens have been invading the world in cinema since its inception. Battle: LA demonstrated what a REAL military response to an alien invasion would be, while Independence Day is a popcorn, cartoonish action movie. I love them both, but they are really quite incomparable.
