A question was raised by one of our subscribers asking about variables and how they are used. So here we are! This video explains the basics of what variables are and how to configure and more importantly how to watch out for pitfalls.

This video does not show you variables in action as this video is like buying them a drink and get to know them a little better. The following video will explain how to use them and show you a little VB code as to how to get them to do your bidding!

  • Thanks PCTeachME!!! I find the videos very helpful and hope to see more videos on SQL and SSIS! Keep up the great work

  • @rBuck50Suck WOW! thanks for the kind words. Anything you want to know in a future video? If so personal message me with what you want and I will see what I can do :o)

  • @PCTeachME Since you mention it, a video that deals with some type of version control for SSIS packages would be very helpful and greatly appreciated!

  • @rBuck50Suck Hi There!

Its a good point. Version control is pretty sparse in SSIS. I use SourceSafe to keep track of all changes in my projects (including SSIS). There is a created date, Modified Date & version field in the properties of the package (just click in the background of the workflow and you'll see them in the properties window. Other than that...thats about it. I don't have Source Safe on my home machine which I use to create the vids I am afriad :(
