Come now, don't be so mean. She is excellent by todays standards.
Vulgar? Try some todays "superstars"....

@A7sogno After Tebaldi I like Anita Cerquetti and Maria Caniglia, they both has a darker color, both are drammatic sopranos, but like you must know the drammatic soprano, the top is more "coperto" and clearer and thinner compared with the middle and not as expansive as a spinto, but I like they both in this aria.I dislike Ghena Dimitrova and I dislike Stella and Milanov.
Finally from today or last years I do like is Aprile Millo and I am thinking of others perhaps Stefsva Evstatieva

@A7sogno I only listened two sopranos who could do that : Tebaldi and Sutherland, aside the differences of theor voices, Tebaldi has steel in her voice and Suherland hasn't but Sutherland has more range. Returning to "La mamma morta" I agree with you, Tebaldi has only one voice (in one piece) and in this aria you notice the infinite dynamic range Tebaldi has, she starts softly, ethereal piano and then she goes crescendo and crescendo until to reach the loudest ff fullbody B in the climax,

@A7sogno : Thank you for your message, I understand italian but unfortunately I don't know to write it properly.I think that to have a voice in only one piece (the same body of voice throughout the register and to can sing full body tops )is one of the most exciting thing for a soprano and also it is an example of how to sing well.

In equal respect I reject your criticiism. This is Verismo singing. TRUTH. Sometimes it is emotional, it isn't equal. It is real, married to the word. Not all singers that are great have one piece voices as you call it. I was very moved by her. Tebaldi is my favorite but this wonderful...do you speak Italian? she is at wits end when she says her young servant in effect sold her beauty to help her be well.

@A7sogno : Another thing, Antonietta Stella voice has several breaks and with different color changes, the voice is not in only one piece (as all great singers are) and her voice is not beautiful, sorry
-
@A7sogno : With my all respect, don't you see how gross she is in her gestures, the the "racconto di Maddalena" she hangs on the wall, shaking her head , when she says "di sua bellezza ha fatto un mercato, de su belleza hizo negocio, un contratto per me! , she grabs her head.
You watch any Tebaldi video and Tebaldi was a donna statuaria and a very refined lady, nothing to do with this

@mariaperrucha You don't want verismo sir or madame. This is excellent, accurate and beautiful story telling. I prefer Tebaldi, but this is a beautiful, lovely, emotional and very exceptional rendering of this aria. What you want is a dainty, detatched version, of which you have ample choice these days... THIS is wonderful.... Brava.

I'm convinced she would have eclipsed Tebaldi in popularity had she made her splash first. She sounds much like Tebaldi, except for a much easier top.
-
She is excellent by any standard. 'Greatness' is the word that comes to mind.

I hate to tell this but this woman was dreadful. What a dreadful artistry!Such a vulgar phrasing , she does not sing the low notes at the begining, she talks. Then her gestures and movements are so vulgar, in the second part of the aria, the voice is ugly and many colors changes, she is singing with a so so size middle and when she hits the high B the voice becomes so small and thin, it seems she is singing a Lucia note. The worst "La mamma morta" ever heard

Perhaps. But she IS Maddalena. I believe her tale of woe. That is what set Stella aparts from most other singers. Besides, it's verismo-- if you can't be vulgar there, then where can you be vulgar? LICIA ALBANESE, YOU CAN'T FOOL ME. YOU'RE LURKING ON YOUTUBE UNDER A PSEUDONYM. BUSTED.
