@moflaher of course, if you want to believe only data from pharmaceutical companies...
If you want to discount Framingham's real results...
If you want to use only observational studies (which any scientist will tell you cannot prove causation)...
If you refuse to read the RCT's that show otherwise, and refuse to listen to the own words of Ancel Keys (Author of the 7 countries study) who denied it...
... then you obviously want to remain in your ignorant dogma. Good luck to you.
-
@moflaher as for the large studies you mention - observational and meta-analysis of observational studies prove nothing.
You can use an observational study to suggest playing basketball makes you tall. It's a stupid argument.
As for the RCT's using statins to show improvement in cardiac risk from lowering cholesterol - all very easily debunked, all are seriously flawed and don't stand up to scrutiny when compared to non-pharmaceutical-industry studies.
-
@moflaher also, there's never been ONE randomized controlled trial positively linking dietary intake of cholesterol to heart disease.
Any that have even suggested such a link have other confounding variables.
All properly done studies disprove the lipid hypothesis. After hundreds of millions of dollars trying to prove the lipid hypothesis, it's still that - a hypothesis.
And the vast majority of studies discredit it. You're in denial to suggest otherwise.
-
@moflaher Wow, this shows you don't even read the supposed "studies" you cite.
Framingham demonstrated that intake of cholesterol in the diet had absolutely no correlation with heart disease. You'd know that if you'd read it instead of believing what others say...
Ancel Keys even said "There’s no connection whatsoever between the cholesterol in food and cholesterol in the blood. And we’ve known that all along."
The director of Framingham even said Cholesterol isn't a risk factor.

@ClintonKeithConsult Precisely. When companies like Lipitor claim that statins reduce the risk of heart attack by 33%, they're distorting the data. Statistically, 3 out of every 100 people in their studies suffered heart attacks, and after taking Lipitor it went down to 2 out of every 100.

The reason why the lipid theory reigns today is largely due to political influence. Dr. Ancel Keys was in league with Senator George McGovern (D, South Dakota) who pushed this theory as a way of making money. A money racket is all it ever was.

I was suffering from heartburn, piles, bad ADHD, tiredness, aggression.
I decided to increase my saturated fat intake and cut out grain. I have a fried breakfast every morning.
All of my symptoms have disappeared.

Our modern medical obsession with the lowering of our ‘blood lipid cholesterol’ may need to be
reversed now that the long term effects on our health and wealth become better understood and more scientifically documented.

Your brain is about 2% of your body mass but it contains 25% of your body’s cholesterol.
Cholesterol accounts for around 20% of all the molecules in all the membranes of every cell in your body.
If this proportion of cholesterol is reduced to 18% your cells will begin to fail, become
deformed and start to leak.

This video is bad science. The evidence base to suggest cholesterol as an independent and powerful risk factor for coronary heart disease is enormous.
It started with studies like Framingham, continued with confirmations from the 7 countries study, The Asia-Pacific cohorts studies, the Prospective Studies Collaboration metaanalysis of 100000 events, all the randomized controlled trials with different therapies to lower blood cholesterol using different classes and molecules within classes.

@moflaher
Statistical association does not prove causation.
The point is there is no proof of cholesterol causing any disease.
Statistical associations produce hypotheses at best - they are not proof.
The 7 countries studies was selected from 22 available at that time.
Now that really is beyond unscientific - it is called fraud today.
The other countries proved the opposite and were left out.

Pharma companies have a responsibility to maximise profits for shareholders. This is done by selling prescription medicines at the highest margins the pay. By the time the fats and cholesterol myth was being exposed in scientific papers , the lowering cholesterol industry was making a fortune. The regulators and their advisers (eminent research scientists funded by the same industry) have a few conflicts of interest to deal with before they can be trusted. You make your own minds up.
