Captain America was gunned down by a sniper on the Courthouse steps, fighting against the Governments mandatory Superhero registration program. He was a very human Superhero, revealed most acutely in Marvel's unusual comic called "Heroes" depicting 9/11, where he felt completely helpless and could not save anyone.

Was a subtle political point made? Is America the America that he fought to protect?
Or am I just reading too much into it?
Music: Helpless by Neil Young.

  • awesome tribute. eventhough neil young is a canadian, i'm sure he'd approve this tribute to america's greatest hero

  • thanks

  • I can't help pondering about it. "They" at Marvel killed Jean Grey when she had to be punished for killing the population of a planet. And now, "they" kill Steve Rogers after he rebelled against a somewhat anti-democratic amendment. Let's hope it's not due to the same scheme.

  • it's an interesting message marvel are sending. since 9.11 they have upped their subtle political opinion almost as much as they and dc did in ww2.

  • i like your videos, i am subscribing

  • Captain America's been torn apart, now he's a court jester with a broken heart.

  • Glad to know ya,see this is what Cap liked, respect and sorting things out. Too bad he and Ironman couldn't have settled things like this though. Remember when Steve returned to take the mantle back from USAgent? Were there 1 or two red skulls, remember the one whose face really was like that and smoked those scarring cigarettes.

  • I hope you accomplish what you set out to do. Good luck with all that. I agree that we both love Capt America, I just don't feel that Colbert was taking a shot. But, like you said our opinions differ.

  • Actually I did,I am in my late 20's and I grew up on Steve Rogers. Yes i realize Colbert plays a CHARACTER on his show and I find his show normally amusing and politically ascerbic and clever. I did see Quessada on the show and liked that skit. I respect your opinion I just differ on this subject because I think of the character as an ideal of American values and would love to discuss obscure Steve Rogers data, as I am a longtime fan, aspiring comic book/manga writer and artist.

  • Last Sailor, definitely a great fit also.

  • Do you realize that Stephen Colbert plays a CHARACTER on his show. He acts like a staunch Republican to throw it in their face. He's a true American he totally destroyed Bush, so much that Bush's wife told him to go fuck himself. He was pointing it out to people who, like me, are older and grew up on Steve Rogers. I guess you didn't see Joe Quessada on there before.

  • Stephen Colbert's skit was tasteless and insensitive to the fact that the character may have been fictional and ink and paint but was a symbol of good, right and American ideals and values to a lot of people. Bucky deserves the shield(comics) and no one in real life.

  • In a sense.

  • The Neil Young vibe really is a nice touch. I was picturing the song Lost Sailor by the Grateful Dead as I was reading the issue.

  • Stephen Colbert deserves Capt's shield. No one else could do it justice. THUMBS UP SOLIDER!
