Oh, and I really have to mention: that 'ppp' at 2:56 is AMAZING. Absolute control of the voice, crystal clear technique.

And once more, how natural his voice sounds all along the registers and at whatever dynamics he applies. It's completely homogeneus and consistent.

If you wanna try and listen to this very carefully searching for timbre or color breaks and/or inconsistencies, be my guest.

But you might REALLY age and die trying, so better be sure to sit down. =)

We should keep in mind that the Maestro was a lirico-leggero tenor, so his voice is full of harmonics and has a metalic timbre, which makes it extremely beautiful and not empty-light as some leggeri, but also won't allow him to have the agility of, let's say, Luigi Alva, the king of tenore coloratura.

But then again, the types of their voices are essentially different. Even though Kraus is not lightning fast, this rendition is, in my opinion, VERY close to perfection.

degarme contarles que la elegancia en su coloratura es mas dificil que la misma interpretacion de el tenor luigi de alva, lo que hace el señor kraus es mas dificil por la posicion y su belleza. Es mas facil hacer lo que hace luigi que como lo hace kraus dense cuenta de ello.

I agree entirely, this rendition is a major source for studying.

It has been said that the colorature were not Kraus' major strenght, but hey!

First, if you get the score and play the melody along, with the piano, you'll notice that every single note is there. Besides, he never breaks the legato and the melodic stream, not one single time. Dynamics are perfect.
