Please join me in my kitchen as I prepare Quinoa milk for my little girl!

Some information on Quinoa:

Called a supergrain, quinoa is highly nutritious and can supply us with all of the body's requirements: carbohydrates, fats, protein, vitamins, minerals, and fiber.

Quinoa is gluten free and considered an ideal food for those prone to food allergies. Common allergens include grains from the grass family such as corn and wheat. Quinoa, a leafy grain, is not in the grass family, making it beneficial for people who cannot tolerate common grains like wheat, corn, rye, barley, and oats.

Quinoa is considered to contain all the essential amino acids, making it a complete protein. According to the Alternative Field Crops Manual of the University of Wisconsin Cooperative Extension, "Quinoa is a highly nutritious food. The nutritional quality of this crop has been compared to that of dried whole milk by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. The protein quality and quantity in quinoa seed is often superior to those of more common cereal grains.

Quinoa possesses larger quantities of calcium, fat, iron, phosphorus, and B vitamins than many other grains. One-half cup of cooked quinoa contains 15.5 mg of calcium, compared to 8.5 mg in the same quantity of cooked whole-wheat cereal. The protein content is a whopping 4.1g for that one-half cup of cooked quinoa. Potassium is impressively high with 159 mg. as is zinc with 1 mg. Other impressive figures include 1.38 mg of iron, and 59 mg. magnesium. In the category of fiber quinoa rates top scores with 2.6 grams for one-half cup cooked grain.

(***PLEASE NOTE:

The consistency of the quinoa milk is more like a watery porridge because I cook the grain before blending. It will not have the thin water like texture you get with soaking a grain before blending it. This is particularly why I make it only for the baby.)

  • @metasjodiendo 1. Buy Quinoa from the store ( It is a grain)

    2. She keeps LOTS of it in the house

    3. Rinse the Quinoa well before you cook it. TO get a protective substance off of it. This substance tastes bitter.

    4. She boils one cup of Quinoa & adds HALF of it to the blender with 2 1/2 cups of water

5.Add as much water as you like. Less water = creamy More water= juicier.

She makes it creamy for the baby.

    6. She blends it and pours it into the pitcher.

  • @datruthofmosthgh2012 Most all packaged (processed) food is full of toxins from one degree to another. The milk will generally stay fresh for up to 3 days but in the past when I was making this the container was usually finished within a day and a half. Please message me if you have any additional nutrition questions.

  • @SuperROMULAN so its ok if u dont cook it...itlll still be very soft after all that soaking and easily digestable???

  • So what's more nutritious in ur opinion walnut, almond or quinoa milk? my son is 5 months old and although I'm gonna continue to breastfeeding till he's 1, I do want to give him a thicker milk so he's full throughout the night (very hungry baby). (3 questions) What type of blender is that, do u have any nutritious recipes for 6 month old and do u know any teething remedies?

Ps ur videos are so helpful, thankyou

  • @26aowens Good job mama! Also try the tea blends called more milk or nursing tea with the capsules it will help. I'm thinking you just need to up your nutrition too. Salmon is great! Also find your local LLL group or even your county health dept should have breastfeeding counselors and can help you get a pump if needed to boost your supply. Also look up ( hm4hb ) human milk for human babies to find other mothers who might share extra breast milk they have. All the best to you!

  • @MOTS411

Thanks for your helpful responses and I haven't fully given up yet. I will try the fenugreek herb and see how that works. I actually saw it in pill form in a local GNC. Eating salmon has been helping me so far.

  • @26aowens There are many ways to up your supply. First off if you are making milk you are doing GREAT. The next step is to evaluate the child's latch and nursing length and frequency. If they aren't nursing often enough or long enough or latching effectively they will not stimulate your supply. So first is to make sure they are nursing when ever they signal they are hungry, on cue. Also there are herbs and foods that help build your milk supply, nursing tea, oatmeal, fenugreek, even beer.
