Glastonbury abbey (in this video) was the inspiration for this hymn, and it has been called England's second national anthem. It calls for social justice.
Legend says that St. Joseph of Arimathea brought the young Jesus here, on a visit whilst (Joseph) was a tin-trader. Later, after the crucifixion, in AD 63, Joseph returned with the Holy Grail and twelve followers, and founded the first church in Great Britain on this spot. Certainly there was a thriving Celtic or Romano-British Christian community here in AD 597 when St. Augustine came to "Christianise" Britain, on the orders of Pope Gregory.
JERUSALEM:
"And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy lamb of God
On England's pleasant pastures seen?
And did the countenance divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among those dark Satanic mills?
Bring me my bow of burning gold
Bring me my arrows of desire
Bring me my spears o'clouds unfold
Bring me my chariot of fire
I will not cease from mental fight
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand
'Til we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land"
Joseph's church was said to have been built "by no human hand" and Christ himself dedicated it to his mother Mary, according to history or legend.
This vid was made during a service to celebrate the transferring of ownership of this abbey to the Church of England (Anglican) in 1907 after it fell into ruin after AD 1539 during the dissolution of the monasteries ordered by King Henry VIII. The Catholic Abbot of Downside abbey was at this service and the Anglican Bishop of Bath & Wells, too. A good thing.
Not a good video, in fact my FIRST ever attempt, and you can see that! The irritating clicking noises are something blowing against the camera mic., in the wind. If I ever get the chance to shoot this again, I certainly shall do.
Look to the link here, and see images of Glastonbury abbey, with more on the legend of Christ's visit and the burial site of King Arthur, also in this abbey.
Joseph of Arimathea is reputedly buried here also: there was a cryptic message left for us about that.
Hi Res pics of the abbey, with more info here:

Yeah, it was one of my first videos shot with a Canon still camera, not my Camcorder. You might like my other video about Glastonbury abbey here, "Glastonbury abbey: the new Jerusalem"
Maybe I'll get luckier next time "Jerusalem" is sung in the Abbey, but it hasn't happened since I'm afraid :(

Thanks. It was my first ever attempt at making videos, and was made completely by chance.
I wasn't expecting this song to be sung. I pointed all this out in the notes written about the video. Should the opportunity arise again ie: that the song is sung in the abbey again, I shall certainly be there to record it and with better quality (hopefully!)
