windows mobile augmented reality, based on a client server concept.
Windows Pda sends camera stream via wifi to a server, and simultaneously receives the augmented visuals back via Windows Media Streaming technology.

This is then opened via windows media player application on the pda.
At the moment latency is around 6 to 7 seconds.

This shows how live AR can be implemented on PDAs for group exploration (where one person is the "pilot" and a large number of visitors switch on their mobile phones and tune into the broadcast from the windows media streaming server) until such a time when GPU and CPU power increase on portable devices.

  • Live latency of video is around 6 - 7 seconds on the PDA due to windows media streaming the augmented stream - read more on the "more info" button on the right on this video.

  • Why is this ar important? ar must be useful, just as robots must be useful for the functionality to mean anything.

  • "augmented reality on windows mobile"

wrong - true title should be "playing streaming video on windows mobile" :/

  • The new NVidia mobile device has the power to run AugR. check it out.

  • lol.. you guys watch too much pron! :-)

  • cool. but this music???? seriously?

  • thanks for the tip, ill have to check that out :)

  • you know it's probably not too insanely difficult to do this sort of streaming setup ourselves. Once I wrap my brain around the nuts & bolts of one of these AR programs I'm going to have to see if I can't try this.

  • @lowtone10 hey have you bought a bag of Doritos lately? There's AR markers for their website on them now. Woot woot, u & I both totally called it. Also the General Electric AR site is pretty nifty too, though only a gimmick.

  • Nice vidoe but that music sounds like Old School Porn movies lol.

  • indeed it is, i think other technology could benefit from a client server setup, for instance, a robot could be more intelligent because a server in the basement is doing the hard work. i can't wait until augmented reality is mainstream (which im sure it will be)
