Using the storyboard editing method in Final Cut Pro you can arrange clip icons in the browser in the method that you want them edited onto your timeline. This allows you to compile an extremely fast rough cut and is a great tool in certain editing situations.

  • curious....when you drag the clips in in storyboard editing does it pull in the whole clips or if you have set in and out points does it just pull in the sections between the in and out points?

  • @msndrstd good question - it pulls the in and out point of that clip.

  • I don't get it. Storyboard is done before you shoot a video. Are you saying that I have to film first and after organize my clips in final cut to make a storyboard? Never heard this before. I would call it simply a movie editing. Comments? Thanks

  • @lunama15 This is "storyboard editing" not storyboarding. Two different things. This is just a method of editing.

  • @MultiAidan1 you can use hackintosh on windows then use final cut

  • is there a way to get final cut pro trial for windows 7?

  • This is a good tip, i will try whith a documental, have many takes.

  • real sense for News Editing.

Usually we capture all the rushs without any reference (journalist don't have time for that).

With his method we can choose very quickly what to edit.

    Very good tutorial.

  • dont you get da whole thing its not storyboarding

  • For multi camera shoots, this makes a lot of sense. Also if scenes are shot out of sequence and at different times or dates from different media and shot with different cameras. Mix sd with hd. Watch the video again. it can be a handy little tool. To the author-great tutorial - bravo

  • @provideoschool You use your actual storyboard to decide the order of your clips. So they go hand in hand. I mean with the massive amount of clips in some projects, I don't see a lot of editors just throwing their clips out there without a reference, unless you're just one of those rare "artists"...lol
