@petrawang (sorry i ran out of characters to finish my thought) John also writes in in that same chapter that we love because He first loved us. We can't properly love until we get it how God loves us.

@petrawang God is love. 1 John 4:8 & 16. Original Greek even says this: "Theos agape estin." so in essence love is God. The world has warped the true definition of love just as they have warped who God is. What many of us think of being love is actually lust. Jesus calls us to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and body & also to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. We may "love" without God, but we can never really truly, fully, ultimately love until we know God and love as He loves.
