  • I wonder which orchestra was playing this.

I first heard the Emperor in 1972 wnen I was 4. it was a 33 rpm vinyl record ( Still have it !) and it was von Karajan conducting the Vienna Philharmonic.

One cannot hope to get a more perfect performance ! I still measure all with that and this is equally good.

    C'est Superb ! C'est Magnifique !!

Listo to this, maybe it gets near to what you heard in 1972! It's Karajan as well

I'd only suggest, not to watch all the kitsch, but merely to listen to the rendition! The images are appallingly candied

    Have fun and enjoy

  • @FRAGIORGIO1 P.S. The tall spire in the background is the 460 foot tall Gothic spire of St. Stephan's cathedral, where they held the funeral of the late Archduke Otto von Habsburg-Lorraine, the last Crown Prince of Austria-Hungary this last July. I recommend seeing the videos of the beautiful funeral with the Requiem Mass of Michael Haydn. Not to be missed!

  • To those who didn't know, this palace is the Palace of Schoenbrunn, built by the empress Maria Theresa (1740-1780) in Vienna. I first heard this in the 1948 movie "The Emperor Waltz" with Bing Crosby and the beautiful Joan Fontaine. The story was supposed to have taken place in 1908 and featured a few encounters with Emperor (Kaiser in German) Franz Joseph. It got me enamored of Austria and Austro-Hungarian history and the Habsburgs.

  • bellerrimo!

  • imo this is one of the finest pieces of music of the classical music era.

Its also one of my favourites, together with Barber of Seville overture by Rossini.

  • miluju!!

  • I had heard of this piece before, whilst listening to classic FM, and only then did I know the name.

It has been a favourite of mine ever since

  • AMAZING!! We played this in our orchestra and it's a really nice piece :D i really like it! I'd really love to play with the Viennese Philharmonics! They are so good!!

  • Great music, peace to my ears after a long day.
