The koran does talk quite a bit about killing jews, you can't deny that.

@RuerlKhan I'm aware but what's your point, how would a religion invent anything? Does that make sense? If the followers of that religion have made large contributions to the world then why would you say that the religion is against it? see my point now?
-
@xJoeEDangerouslyx ummm people were a lot more religious in the past then they are now.. i don't think you would really debate that so it makes no sense when u say fundies took over because people were more fundamentalist before. and the catholic church was known for killing scientists, notice: catholic, not islamic. your argument would have made sense if it wasnt for the last sentence where u say the "islamic" dark age continues
-
@xJoeEDangerouslyx Not entirely true, the worst repression of scientists happened during the renesaince, not during the dark ages. The church in the middle ages where by far too fragmented to have the power to repress scientists to any large scale, add to this the investiture controversy and its actually a pretty nuanced picture.
The church really had much less power than its credited for, not that it helped that the ordinary population where even worse.

@H20z1 Well, because its much easier to hold to a convenient lie than an uncomfromtable truth. Now to make a small correction though: I did not say that "islam" invented much in the period. But that "muslims" did. ie. people from the middle east, who happened to be muslims. Big difference. ;)

I can't believe Fox News still exists in 2012.
-
@H20z1 Because the innovations came before the fundies took over. Once the religious right-wingers took over, everything stopped. That's what happened in the western world too. That's why they call it the dark ages. The churches killed the scientists and intellectuals because a smart rational populace is bad for the church. It's just what happens when fundamentalists get into power. The Islamic dark age continues to this day.

@RuerlKhan the thing is though some people say Islam is against maths and science, but if muslims are known for having so many inventions in maths and engineering then how can this be the case?
-
They say it with a straight face because they've been brainwashed into believing that shit.
-
@rrtodd95 For examples of the knowledge just look at the vast amount of knowledge the crusaders gained from the arabs during the crusades. Castle building techniques requires more than a little of both engineering and math for example. And many of those techniques where developed in the muslim world (again, that does not make them muslim inventions. See my previous point).
In short? I maintain the claim that muslims have made plenty of inventions, I reject that "Islam" has made any however.
@Taurusaud all charles bolden is saying is that we should acknowledge muslim contributions to math and engineering, i don't see how you turn that into the top priority of NASA
