He claims "you can eliminate poverty if you just focus on it for 30 or 40 years".
Since he's such a stickler for empiricism, I'd like to know how he can claim this to be empirically true when it flies in the face of experience. Free markets bring prosperity, not welfare.

I feel as though Galbraith foretold of the rise of the Tea party in this segment:
"If there's not a constructive program that people can identify with, there will be a deconstructive program that people can identify with."

Oh no. ibg ybg and mortgage originator does not compute. He is mistaken about that. Originators and even brokers generally speaking, don't make the kind of money typically that drives ibg ybg.

Some insight, too much idiological idol worship. We are seeing a much larger problem growing in front of us while doing nothing regaurding the known causes of the current debacle.

Most informative. Thank you.
Very Insightful. So Many good arguements in here. The smaller banks who made the business and ethical decisions not to get involved in the fraud bubble would be allowed to prosper under capitalism. This would allow our country to rebuild.

Yes! The smaller the better. Local credit unions are awesome and 'not for profit'.
