AMC commercial from the pilot for the Carol Burnett Show, "Carol Plus 2," from somewhere in 1967. Check out the AMX show car on the top of the carrier. Marked as public domain on the www.archive.org website.

  • As I recall AMC never had a recall for a safety related issue. No German, Japanese or other American company can make that claim. The only recall notice was for the inflation bottle for the "space saver" Goodyear tire in the trunk covered by Goodyear under a separate warrantee..

  • The Rambler American was the best car they ever made. Why did they replace it with the Gremlin? i really don't know why.

  • Anyone saying that these cars were generically bad quality is wrong. Nothing wrong with these cars. My dad had a late 50s Rambler, we had it for years. My sister bought a 1972 Javelin. I will say the seats did wear out early, she just got seat covers back when those were actually good. I still have my 1969 AMX, and although it is tatty (bought it that way) it still runs like a tank. The AMC 390/401 is just a glorious engine!

  • @OldcarsNmusic

The only quality problems I can recall with AMC is that a lot of them seemed to have shredded seats. Mechanically they were conservative and proven, they didn't have a lot of money to invest in strange technology. While they occasionally had some seriously funky styling, the 69 Ambassador was quite nice looking in my opinion, at least as good as its peers.

  • @OsbornTramain You're right about everything but you forgot the Peter Max models. Those were indeed '66 models. The Ambassador only seemed to do well when it shared the Classic's wheelbase.

There were no real quality problems with any AMC; if anything, they were made too well!

  • @cadrolls1 True art is never appreciated, until after its creators are gone...

  • Even my 66 Rambler American 220 rode better than anything I've ever driven...

  • 1966 AMC cars, but a show / concept car called "AMX". The production AMX appeared for 1968.

  • Syd Melton was gored to death by a Triceratops in the classic sci-fi Lost Continent - 1950.

  • This guy speaks the truth....by the way did anybody notice that the AMC trcuk driver was charactor actor Sid Melton?
